“What we’ve been able to gain in time has exceeded expectation. The jobs that we used to put off because they were quite mundane take seconds to complete now.”
“It’s just having complete visibility really on where jobs are at, and who’s responsible for doing a certain task.”
The Organisation
Murphy & Landrigan is a chartered accounting firm based in New Plymouth, Taranaki. Established in recent years, the firm has grown quickly, expanding its team to around 20 staff as its client base has increased.
To support this transformation, Murphy & Landrigan worked with Incendo, a digital transformation consultancy, to implement workflow automation using the Flowingly platform.
They spoke with Deb Burmeister, Director at Murphy & Landrigan, about how the firm introduced workflow automation to support its growing team.
The Challenge
As Murphy & Landrigan expanded, the systems and processes that once worked for a smaller team began to create inefficiencies.
Work was often coordinated through spreadsheets and manual processes. Onboarding new staff required significant one-on-one training, and managing recurring accounting tasks across the team became increasingly difficult.
“We had huge growth with staff going from zero to 20 in around about five years. There was a lot of inefficiencies in how things were getting done.”
— Deb Burmeister, Director, Murphy & Landrigan
The firm needed a more consistent way to manage processes, share best practices across the team, and help new staff become productive more quickly.
The Solution
Murphy & Landrigan partnered with Incendo to introduce workflow automation using the Flowingly platform.
Together they mapped key accounting processes and created structured workflows to guide how work moves through the firm. At the same time, Murphy & Landrigan transitioned from Google Workspace to Microsoft and centralised their client master data in SharePoint.
This master data could then be connected directly to Flowingly workflows, allowing recurring accounting processes to run using accurate client information.
“Every month all our GSTs are created and assigned to staff based on what’s in our master data.”
— Deb Burmeister, Director, Murphy & Landrigan
Instead of manually coordinating work through spreadsheets, tasks are automatically created, assigned to staff, and tracked within the workflow system.
One of the biggest operational improvements came from connecting workflows directly to the firm’s central master data.
By linking SharePoint data to Flowingly workflows, recurring tasks such as GST preparation can automatically populate the correct client information and assign work to the appropriate team member.
This reduces manual data entry while ensuring staff always have an accurate view of outstanding work.
Results
Introducing workflow automation significantly improved how Murphy & Landrigan manages work across the firm.
Routine tasks that previously required considerable manual effort can now be completed much faster, freeing staff to focus on higher-value work.

The team also gained clear visibility into the status of work across the organisation, making it easier to track responsibilities and ensure tasks progress smoothly.
